Design guidelines
We recommend using our templates and guides for preparing your print-ready PDF.

You can download our guides and templates in the template section. Remember to delete the template layers before exporting your design to PDF.

If you already have a design, no worries; we accept other file formats, including JPEG, PNG, or EPS.

For photographic content, high-resolution JPEGs are recommended, preferably without compression. For graphics or text-based content, we recommend print-ready, vector-based PDFs. For content that is a combination of graphics and photography, we suggest using print-ready PDFs to ensure the best quality.

Use CMYK as the colour mode.

Prepare your files using CMYK as the colour mode, not RGB. Use colourmode FOGRA39 (ISO Coated v2) for coated papertypes and colourmode FOGRA47 (PSO Uncoated ISO12647) for uncoated papertypes. If you are unsure of the colour mode of your file, don't worry we can always convert this for you. Keep in mind this can cause the colours to differ from the original file.

Resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Make sure the resolution of the images and graphics in your artwork are at least 300 dpi.

Add 3 mm bleed and keep 4 mm safety margin

During production, there might be a slight cut deviation. To avoid any issues, we recommend the following:

  • Add a 3 mm bleed around all edges of your design.
  • Keep important elements 4 mm away from the edge or folding lines.
  • Avoid using borders or frames on smaller formats like labels or business cards.
Text and fonts specifications (Min. font size is 6 pt)

For this product, the minimum font size is 6 pt. To avoid any issues, we recommend the following:

  • Fonts must be embedded or outlined.
  • If your design contains small black text, make sure it is 100 % black (Cyan: 0 Magenta: 0 Yellow: 0 Black: 100).

Note that we don't check spelling or typographical errors.

Check line thickness.

Lines should be at least 0.25 pt. Negative lines should be at least 0.5 pt.

Check your artwork for overprint.

Make sure no elements in your artwork are set on overprint unless you want this effect in your design. You can read more about overprint in our Help Centre.

Make sure the ink coverage isn't higher than 300%.

Force Colour Images to CMYK with a 260% ink limit (in Photoshop > Convert Colour Profile > Photoshop 5 Default CMYK). Make sure the ink coverage isn't higher than 300%.

Using a border/frame is not recommended

It is recommended to count with a margin of error when stacks of copies are trimmed during the production process. This slight cutting deviation is usually not noticeable, nevertheless, we recommend avoiding adding borders smaller than 20 mm in your design for any product smaller than an A4 (210 x 297 mm). Otherwise, the design might end up looking off-centre.

Frequently asked questions
What is this product? And what can I use it for?
  • leaflets are our most ordered and most popular marketing material in our product range. A flyer is a sheet of paper that you can completely design and print to your own needs.

  • This product can be used:

  • • To introduce people to your business

  • • Promote discounts or events

  • • Provide information

What is the fastest possible turnaround?
  • The fastest possible turnaround for Leaflets is:

  • Next Day

  • Please note: Only applicable for products which require your design: To make sure that your order is delivered at the indicated time, it is important that we receive your file with your design for the product, on time (also called cut-off time). This way, the product can be moved into production on time. The deadline is always communicated at the final step when putting your product together and in the box on the right which details your entire order.

  • The cut-off time for your printed item may vary. This depends on the combination you choose. This has to do with the manufacturing technique and / or the order quantities.

  • Please note: The product delivery shifts a day every time the deadline for submission has passed. This is also the case if the file is rejected by us and corrected artwork isn't supplied before the next cut-off time.

Which production techniques do we use?
  • For the production of Leaflets, we use the following technique(s):

  • Digital printing: Uses four colours (CMYK) with toners and inks to print digital files. This option is comparable to a large home printer, and is cheaper than Litho printing for smaller quantities. This is because there are fewer starting costs, fewer components involved, and no ink drying time required.

  • Offset Lithography/Litho printing: This technique uses wet ink and aluminium and rubber plates to transfer images and text onto paper sheets, resulting in sharp, vibrant, and consistent prints. While this method may require slightly more setup than digital printing, it's the most cost-effective option for larger print runs.

Which carriers are used for the delivery?
  • For the delivery of Leaflets, we use our most reliable carriers which, in most cases, are UPS or DPD.

  • UPS

  • We also use DHL and our own courier service. However, these carriers are only used for certain products (depending on the size, the turnaround and the quantity).

I can't find the product I'm looking for. Can I request a quotation?
  • The Leaflets chosen in most cases can be selected via our website.

  • If your material type, weight, quantity, size or other specification is not listed, you can request a quotation. We aim to get back to you within 2 working days.

  • Depending on the complexity, this can take a bit longer.

What materials can I choose from?
  • 135gsm: This material is lightweight and slightly thicker than printing paper. Thickness: 0.11 mm.

  • 170gsm: This material gives your product a professional look. It's ideal for use at events, fairs and for your business-stand. Thickness: 0.17mm.

  • 250gsm: This paper is mainly used in the hospitality and retail and is three times as thick as printing paper. With a thickness of 0.22 mm, the paper feels pretty solid.

FAQ

What is the best size for my flyer?

Flyer printing is possible in multiple sizes and formats to meet all your communication needs. However, as advertisers and professionals with commercial graphic design experience will tell you, communication agencies and marketing teams usually choose standard dimensions for flyers. The A5 size format is generally the standard flyer size. Either way, it’s essential to think about which format will best let you display your headline and images in order to appeal to your target audience and capture their attention.

A7: This format is 74 x 105 mm and about one eighth of an A4. This would be the smallest size we'd recommend for printing flyers, any smaller and your target audience might miss them.
A6: This format is 105 x 148mm and most comparable to the size of a postcard. Though a tad smaller than your average flyer, it can still be designed to pack a punch for effective communication.
A5: This format is 148 x 210 mm and the standard flyer size used for promotional campaigns and marketing strategies. Flyers of this size are extremely convenient for distribution as well.
A4: The format is 210 x 297 mm and can be quite useful for companies, business enterprises, and local administrations with a lot of information to share. They can also easily be folded, put in an envelope and sent by post when needed (school leaflets, for example).
A3: This format is closer to the size of a small poster and would be convenient to display offers or upcoming events on walls and shop windows. Since they're large, they draw a lot of attention.
Square Format: This format of flyers can be used for more personal communication with potential customers. They're quite a unique format and are an elegant and original choice. They can also be transformed into invitations.
ALong / Xlong Format: The A-Long (74 x 210 mm) and X-Long (105 x 297 mm) format are both long and slim in appearance. They can be designed to make useful and engaging communication pieces. For example, they can be printed with illustrations and eye-catching text that is attractive to potential customers, who can then use them as bookmarks.
DL: This format is 99 x 210 mm and comparable to the size of an envelope. This means they can be easily tailored for direct marketing, and are convenient for advertisements or discount codes you would like to send to customers via post.

What paper can I use for my Leaflets?

We print flyers with various paper. For your reference, the thickness is usually measured in GSM (grams per m²) and the higher the gsm, the thicker the paper. So now, which one suits your needs?

90 gsm is the thinnest paper option for your flyer, which makes it easy to distribute. This budget choice is the best option if you want the feeling of standard paper for your flyer.
135 gsm is the most common choice since it’s lightweight and easy to distribute. It is also less prone to wrinkling than standard printing paper, as it's 1.5x thicker. This option is a bargain for businesses with a small marketing budget because it can be arranged at a price that won't break the bank.
170 gsm paper flyers are often the chosen for conferences and trade shows. Being about 2x thicker than standard printing paper, their sturdiness makes them an attractive option for professional gatherings.
250 gsm paper flyers are often ordered by companies within the hospitality and retail industries. This paper type is 3x the thickness of standard printing paper, so they'll feel extremely sturdy in the hand.
400 gsm paper flyers are the most premium option, but can still be ordered at an economical price. At 4x the thickness of standard printing paper, this choice guarantees a robust and luxurious flyer, which is great for special occasions or events.

What material can I choose for my flyers?

Glossy: The glossy finish gives the paper a subtle sheen. It's perfect for photographs as the colours show up quite vivid.
Matte: The matte finish is quite subtle and is perfect if your design is text-heavy.
Offset
Writable:
This paper is uncoated, which means that it's possible to write on the flyer. This is perfect if you need your customers write on your flyer, perhaps to fill in some information.
Recystar Nature: 100% recycled paper and sustainably produced. The natural white colour gives the print a natural look.
Bio Top: Recyclable and made through a chlorine-free (TCF) bleaching process with no optical brightening agents. This process leaves the paper with an off-white colour and a natural, uncoated texture. It is pleasant to the touch and comfortable for reading.
PaperWise Natural: Unbleached and made from agricultural waste. Sustainable with low environmental impact, it is uncoated and has a natural light brown colour.
UV-varnish: The UV-varnish finish gives your flyer an ultra glossy appearance, making it look quite luxurious.
Matte lamination: The matte lamination finish adds an extra layer to your flyer. Similar to the matte finish, this is also subtle and is perfect if your flyer is text heavy. The added layer also acts as extra protection for your flyer.
Gloss lamination: The glossy lamination adds an extra layer to your flyer. Similar to the glossy finish, this also gives your flyers a sheen and is perfect for photographs as the colours show up quite vivid. The added layer also acts as extra protection for your flyer.

Which production techniques do we use?

For the production of Leaflets, we use the following technique(s):
Digital printing: Uses four colours (CMYK) with toners and inks to print digital files. This option is comparable to a large home printer, and is cheaper than Litho printing for smaller quantities. This is because there are fewer starting costs, fewer components involved, and no ink drying time required.
Offset Lithography/Litho printing: This technique uses wet ink and aluminium and rubber plates to transfer images and text onto paper sheets, resulting in sharp, vibrant, and consistent prints. While this method may require slightly more setup than digital printing, it's the most cost-effective option for larger print runs.

Should I choose single or double-sided for Flyer printing?

When it comes to deciding between single or double-sided printing for Flyers, it depends on the amount of information you want to convey. Single-sided Flyers are typically the cheaper option, but if you have additional information or designs that you want to showcase, double-sided Flyers offer more space to do so. At Helloprint, our double-sided flyers are similarly priced to our single-sided flyers, making them a great choice for those looking to maximise their marketing potential.
Note: It's important to remember that printing double-sided flyers with a gsm of lower than 200 can result in a level of transparency. For best results, we recommend ordering 200 gsm or more for double-sided printing.

Can Flyers be printed with a tear line or a punch hole?

Unfortunately, we don't offer tear lines or punch holes for Flyers or Leaflets. If you're looking for a similar product with tear lines, you can check out our Tickets. Alternatively, if you're interested in adding punch holes to your design, our Swing Tags may be the option for you.
